The Frontman of the New York Dolls Was a New York Rock Icon

I had this poster on my wall in college and in my first apartments.

Just a brief note to recognize the news, announced today, that one of my rock-n-roll heroes, David Johansen, has died at 75.

This is an early 90’s performance of his first post-New York Dolls single (on Conan O’Brien with the Mighty Max Weinberg on drums), “Funky But Chic,” which has been my wake-up alarm tone for years and which showed he could carry his own music.

More needs to be said, but I need to digest the news before jumping in, given his 50 years of music and the twists and turns he took. In the meantime, I want to leave the original recorded version of this with everyone. Feel free to dance in his memory.
