New Labor, a New Jersey Workers Advocacy Group, Is Pushing Back Against ice
A lot has been written — including by me — about the threats to immigrants posed by the Trump Administration and his immigration shock troops. Not a lot, however, is being said about how the community is responding.
New Labor, a worker group that organizes mostly immigrant workers and families, is using its numbers to protect immigrants in New Jersey.
It has launched a hotline called DIRE that provides rapid response and protection when community members are approached by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. DIRE members act as witnesses to document what is happening and make sure that workers know their rights.
