I argue that the new rules imposed by President Joe Biden on immigration — really, a return to Trump-era restrictions — are consistent with our anti-immigrant history and give the lie to the mythology we spout about being a nation of immigrants. It is a political move that will sacrifice the lives of the most vulnerable.
