Monday Music: Another Protest Song
Lonnie Holley is an Artistic Polymath — and the latest Addition to the #AgeofTrump Protest Playlist

Lonnie Holley turns 75 today. If you haven’t heard of the visual artist/songwriter, don’t feel bad. I hadn’t either, until KCRW’s Today’s Top Tune podcast featured his newest song, the gospel-inspired protest song aptly called “Protest With Love.”
Holley, according to the bio on his website, lived a “chaotic” early life, and has built his art “out of struggle, hardship, (and) perhaps more importantly, out of furious curiosity and biological necessity. He is an artistic polymath working in “drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, performance, and sound.”
His music, which I spent some time with today, is intense and rewarding, rhythmic, lyrical, demanding.
