It was a repeated occurrence. On the Voorhees Mall (the central space of Rutgers University’s College Avenue campus), in front of the administration building (Winants Hall) in New Brunswick, on the Newark and Camden campuses. Hundreds singing in unison:
He-e-e-y Holloway,
We want to know-oh-oh
When you’ll raise our pay
The refrain was familiar. One of those melodies that sticks in your ear. An ear worm. I couldn’t stop singing it, but it’s absolute familiarity — we’ve all heard this musical line — left me scrambling. I could not for the life of me remember the original song.
